The best returning players

Ohio State lost two first-round receivers — Garrett Wilson and Chris Olaf — from 2021, but the offense is still packed with talent. Quarterback CJ Stroud leading the attack in 2022 after completing the Heisman Cup Finals in his first year as a rookie. Stroud’s blind side will be protected in 2021 by the offensive intervention of Paris Johnson Jr, making the situation shift from the right guard. Johnson will have accelerated passes for notable running back TreVeyon Henderson who ran 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns as a true freshman. The Jaxon Smith-Njigba wide receiver adds to Ohio State’s offensive firepower; On his most recent run, he set an FBS game record with 347 yards, and scored a Rose Bowl with 15 catches while adding in three touchdowns.

Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. also had an outstanding performance in the Rose Bowl, catching three touchdowns. It returns in 2022, and so is wide Camryn Babb, who was injured in 2021. Led by attitude coach Brian Hartline, Ohio’s reception room goes deep again as former five-star recruits Julian Fleming and Emeka Igboka complete the center.

Ohio’s defense begins in advance in the trenches. Defensive line Taron Vincent and Zach Harrison lead the pool of experience under the tutelage of coach Larry Johnson. Players Jack Sawyer and GT Tuemolo are also expected to contribute in the second year after collecting 5.5 sacks in 2021.

The Ohio State linebacker will shrink in 2022 as a result of new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ 4-2-5 defense, which means there are only two traditional quarterbacks on the field. Linebacker Teradja Mitchell returns with the most experience.

In the minor segment, Denzel Burke’s cornerback appears to be emerging as the Buckeyes’ latest closing corner. He will be joined by cornerback Cameron Brown, abroad. Elsewhere, Josh Proctor returned from injury, while Tanner McAllister brought 23 games of experience in the Knowles system to the Ohio State defense.
