No eye contact, no warmth: William and Harry parted at Queen’s funeral | Queen Elizabeth II

There was no eye contact or recognition between Prince William And Prince Harry walking behind the coffin of the Queen. It also did not appear in reality, as the two princes were joined by their wives, Kate and Meghan, at Westminster Abbey.

Dressed in the morning suit on which his medals were fixed in place of a military uniform, the traditional dress permitted for members of the royal family serving on ceremonial occasions, Harry focused his gaze on the front during the procession from Westminster Hall to the Abbey and later at Windsor Castle.

walking behind King Charles IIIthe Princess Royal and Prince Edward and the Duke of York, who also appeared in a morning suit, the brothers were at least side by side, rather than in close proximity to their cousin, Peter Phillips, as was the case at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral last April.

But those looking for any hint of a thaw that has marked relationships since Harry, 38, left the UK to build a new life in California, and have criticized his family as he did, are disappointed.

Carefully, the two men and their husband avoided any interaction. Their eyes never met, a safe distance was always physically maintained.

While transporting the coffin to the convent, Harry and Andrew, who also retreated from public life after being interviewed on BBC Newsnight about his friendship with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, looked at the floor as other members of the family in uniform saluted.

Inside, Harry and Meghan took their seats at the head of worshipers directly behind King Charles and Queen Camilla.

There was a reassuring look every now and then among the Sussexes. Earlier they held hands for a while.

But, perhaps in response to the outlandish criticism they received for past displays of affection at events commemorating the late Queen, there was remarkably little physical contact.

The Duchess of Sussex, who wore a pair of pearl and diamond studs by the Queen at her first joint engagement in June 2018, when they celebrated the opening of a new bridge in Cheshire, was visibly touching. Sometimes.

With her gloved hand in hand, a solitary tear spurted from her cheek as the Queen’s coffin left the monastery.

Meghan, 41, has not followed the tradition of members of the royal family wearing a black lace “mourning veil” but the same can be said for Princess Beatrice, Countess of Wessex and her daughter, Lady Louise Windsor. Instead, she wore a black cloak, a Stella McCartney dress, and a wide-brimmed hat.

Upon arriving at St George’s Chapel for the commissioning service, William, Kate and their children waited at the head of the front panel to let Harry and Meghan pass, before taking their own places. Once again, there was no connection or gesture to acknowledge the shared moment. Princess Charlotte sat between Harry and her mother.

Every effort, it seems, was made to avoid a distraction from the state funeral and to bury the Queen in the royal crypt below St George’s Chapel alongside her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh. But the rapprochement between the two brothers seemed far-fetched. There is no doubt that the task of rebuilding relations did not facilitate anything by canceling the invitation of the Sussexes to a reception attended by world leaders on the eve of the funeral.

In the meantime, Harry’s ‘intimate and honest’ memoir will come while Meghan said the couple are working on a ‘historical documentary’ in which she will share their ‘love story’.
